Shipping Policy


At Piece of Cake, we do everything we can to be sure every shipped cake will arrive in "ready to enjoy" condition. Each layer cake is frozen, shrink wrapped and packaged with dry ice in a styrofoam container to maintain freshness and minimize the risk of damage in transit. Our pound cakes and non-perishable baked goods are packaged and placed in tins for safe arrival at their destination. Due to the perishable nature of our layer cakes, we only ship them next day delivery or 2-day delivery via FedEx to most locations.

Shipping Costs and Limitations
Shipping charges are based on total shipping weight, size and destination zip code. Generally, shipments of layer cakes are only sent next day delivery or 2-day delivery within the continental 48 states and the District of Columbia. In some instances we can ship layer cakes via FedEx Ground delivery to locations within approved delivery zones. We do not ship outside of the USA.

All FedEx deliveries are designated for delivery without a signature requirement. We recommend, however, that someone be available to accept the shipment, especially if the delivery location is an office building or apartment complex. There is a chance that the FedEx driver will not leave the package if they are unsure of the correct delivery location or they do not believe the conditions to be deliverable.

Shipping is available Monday-Thursday. FedEx will not guarantee weekend deliveries, so all orders must be placed to arrive at their destination by Friday. Orders to be shipped on a Thursday must be for overnight delivery or within the FedEx 1-day shipping zone.

We cannot guarantee specific arrival times on the day of delivery. FedEx has until 10 pm to deliver packages. Most residential packages are delivered by 7 pm and most business packages are delivered by 5 pm.

Issue Resolution
We do everything we can to be sure your order is delivered on time and ready to enjoy. However, sometimes things occur that cause this not to happen. In such an event, we will do everything we reasonably can to make you a happy customer. If there is any problem with your delivery, please call us as soon as possible at 1-800-9-CAKE-90 (1-800-922-5390). We must be notified of any delivery issues within 5 business days of a shipping date to be able to resolve the problem. If we caused a problem with your order, we will make it right.

We cannot offer refunds for the following circumstances:

  • An incorrect or incomplete shipping address
  • An incorrect or incomplete shipping address
  • Weather related delivery issues
  • Cakes which have become unusable due to a recipient’s failure to follow instructions provided with the cake delivery
  • Cakes not removed from packaging in a timely manner (i.e. packages left at an address when someone is out of town)
  • Delivery problems beyond our control.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Orders
Due to the unusually large amount of orders placed for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we suggest ordering your cakes as early as possible to ensure cake availability. Due to the large number of packages being delivered during the holidays and unpredictable weather, FedEx will not always guarantee on-time delivery during these holiday periods. The sooner your cake is scheduled for delivery, the less likely it is that your order might be delayed.
